These 3D models are derived from data collected by NASA's Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) aboard the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) orbiter. The data can be obtained from Mission Experiment Gridded Data Records (MEGDRs ), which are global topographical maps of Mars. Click here to go to the PDS Geosciences Node , where you can download the data yourself.
NASA's NASAVIEW software can be used to view the MEGDRs: click here to download the application.
3DEM was a freeware software application from Visualization Software LLC, by Richard Horne, that could view the MEGDRs and export them to VRML files. Unfortunately, it is no longer supported. You may be able to find it on Google.
You can view photographic images of Mars obtained by the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) aboard the Mars Global Surveyor orbiter, from here .
